Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, has recently shared his thoughts on several pressing issues through social media posts. Smith, who succeeded Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate, has expressed concerns over healthcare cuts, violence in Minnesota, and commemorated Juneteenth.
On June 18, 2025, Rep. Adam Smith addressed the proposed cuts to Medicaid by the Trump administration. Kim Schrier, he hosted a Maternal Health Roundtable in Auburn to discuss how federal funding reductions could impact communities “The Trump administration’s proposed cuts to Medicaid would greatly reduce access to maternal health in our districts…”.
Later that day, Smith commented on an incident of violence in Minnesota. He described it as “yet another example of how anger and vitriol has grown dangerous in our representative democracy” “The horrific violence in Minnesota is yet another of example of how anger and vitriol has grown dangerous…”.
On June 19, 2025, Smith took a moment to recognize Juneteenth, marking it as a day “to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.” He highlighted the historical significance when Union troops freed enslaved people in Galveston, Texas and urged continued efforts towards equality and justice “Today is Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the end of slavery…”.
Adam Smith was born in Washington D.C., graduated from Fordham University with a BA in 1987 and earned a JD from the University of Washington in 1990. At age 57, he resides in Bellevue.
