Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed his constituents through a series of posts on social media covering Labor Day, government funding negotiations, and the start of the school year.
On September 1, Smith marked the holiday by stating, “Happy Labor Day! Thankful to all of the working-class folks who make our community stronger each day.”
The following day, as lawmakers prepared for federal budget discussions, Smith commented on executive-legislative relations: “We’re headed into a big government funding fight and we need some assurances that President Trump will recognize that what Congress is doing matters.” This statement came amid heightened attention to fiscal negotiations in Congress.
Later on September 2, with schools reopening in King County, Smith posted a message directed at students and educators: “It’s back to school season in King County, and I wish all the students, teachers, faculty, and families luck as they begin this school year. Welcome back.”
Smith has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 9th District since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate. Before joining Congress, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
