Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to address a range of policy issues including workforce development, maritime safety, and public health.
On December 4, 2025, Smith highlighted alternatives to traditional college education in a post stating, “There are multiple pathways to securing high-quality, well-paying jobs. Not every student needs to attend college and take on years of debt. I’ve introduced legislation to provide comprehensive wraparound services for trainees in workforce development programs, helping cover the”. The tweet reflects ongoing national conversations about student debt and workforce readiness.
Later that day, Smith referenced a recent television appearance related to maritime incidents: “Last night, I joined @MSNOWNews to discuss the boat strikes on September 2nd.” (December 4, 2025). Details of the discussion were not included in the post.
On December 5, 2025, Smith addressed changes in public health protocols with a statement: “I strongly condemn the ACIP’s decision to reverse its protocol requiring all newborns to receive the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth. There is no evidence supporting a delay of the first immunization, and the current vaccine schedule is estimated to have saved more”. His remarks come amid debates over vaccination schedules for infants.
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 through 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and now residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
