On October 7, 2025, Smith marked the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, writing, “Today marks the two-year anniversary of the horrifying, brutal October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas. Later that evening, Smith discussed the impact of the government shutdown on federal employees. Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997.
