Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, addressed concerns about immigration enforcement and health care layoffs in a series of tweets on November 19, 2025.
In one post, Smith responded to a constituent’s question about immigration enforcement: “Susan tuned into my virtual town hall and asked about ICE raids across the country. This is how I plan to protect our community: https://t.co/Bmq5pcbPZ4” (November 19, 2025).
Later that day, Smith criticized recent federal policy impacts on local health care jobs: “As a direct result of President Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, almost 300 jobs will be cut from Providence Swedish’s First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, and Issaquah hospitals and clinics. These are not the only layoffs we’ve seen in our health care system in Washington state in recent” (November 19, 2025).
He also commented on projected increases in health care costs: “The Trump Administration continues to increase prices for Americans.
Health care premiums for 2026 are expected to be drastically higher, from Medicare Part B to the ACA Marketplace.
Our country cannot afford to pay more for all types of health care coverage next year, and it’s https://t.co/S8GhY0tPjp” (November 19, 2025).
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th District in Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997.
