Rep. Adam Smith, currently serving as the U.S. Congress representative for Washington’s 9th district, recently addressed several key issues through a series of tweets on May 12, 2025. Smith has been an active member of Congress since 1997, after replacing Randy Tate, and previously served in the Washington State Senate.

On May 12, 2025, Smith emphasized the need for both affordable and available housing in his tweet: “We need to not only make housing more affordable, but also more available. I discussed the housing crisis in our nation at my recent Virtual Town Hall.”

Later that day, Smith voiced opposition to cuts made by the Trump administration regarding National Science Foundation (NSF) grants in a subsequent tweet: “I joined 112 of my House Democratic colleagues to oppose the Trump administration’s cuts to National Science Foundation (NSF) grants. This will not only disrupt ongoing research, but derail global competition in science and technology. The President needs to reinstate these.”

Continuing his focus on housing issues, Smith expressed gratitude towards participants of a roundtable discussion in another tweet: “King County and the Ninth District need more affordable housing. Thanks to everyone who came to our Housing Development Consortium Roundtable.”

Smith was born in Washington D.C., is currently residing in Bellevue, and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
