Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing health care access, insurance costs, and the role of immigrants in the workforce.
On September 12, 2025, Smith expressed support for legal action against actions taken by the Trump administration. He stated: “I’ve been supporting @AGOWA and his lawsuits against the illegal actions of the Trump administration, and I support the recent ruling that over 100 health and science webpages must be restored. To provide the best and safest care, all Washingtonians need access to reliable”.
Later that day, Smith commented on rising health insurance costs: “Health insurance costs are expected to see the largest jump in five years, and the 24 million Affordable Care Act enrollees could see prices rise by over 75% in 2026 if Republicans refuse to extend crucial premium tax credits. President Trump’s reckless tariffs are only adding to”.
On September 13, Smith highlighted immigrant contributions to key industries and criticized recent labor force reductions: “Nearly 20% of the U.S. workforce is made up of immigrants, who play essential roles in farming, fishing, construction, and forestry industries. Yet, the Trump administration has removed 1.2 million immigrant workers from our labor force, derailing the ability to put food on the”.
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th District since replacing Randy Tate in Congress in 1997. Before his tenure in Congress began that year, he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds a BA from Fordham University (1987) and a JD from the University of Washington (1990).
