Representative Adam Smith, who has served Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, recently addressed several key issues through his public statements on social media. Smith, a Bellevue resident and Fordham University graduate with a JD from the University of Washington, used his platform to highlight concerns regarding federal education funding, legislative developments, and community health initiatives.
On July 11, 2025, Smith stated that he had joined with other House Democrats to urge the Trump administration to release funds designated for public education. He wrote: “I joined 150 House Democrats in urging the Trump administration to distribute the illegally held $7 billion to public education, including more than $136 million for Washington state schools. This money is usually allocated on July 1, and this delay will directly hurt students,” referencing concerns about delayed distribution of federal resources.
Later that day, on July 11, 2025, Smith referenced a recent virtual event he hosted for constituents. He noted: “On Wednesday, I held a Virtual Town Hall where I spoke to over 15,000 constituents. I opened up the evening talking about the problems in the Big Ugly Bill and what this means for people in our country.”
On July 13, 2025, Smith highlighted his participation at a local community event in Seattle. He said: “I had the privilege of joining the Somali Health Board Headquarters Ribbon Cutting in Seattle. Really appreciate the work you will do at this new facility.”
Adam Smith was born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and began his political career as a member of the Washington State Senate before being elected to Congress. He succeeded Randy Tate as representative of Washington’s 9th District.
