Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently addressed a range of national and international issues in a series of social media posts.

On August 25, 2025, Smith commented on rising beef prices and shifts in the U.S. beef supply chain: “Price of beef is predicted to increase by almost 10% for the rest of 2025, and consumers are forced to foot the bill. American companies are also changing who imports their beef, opting for Brazilian or Australian beef as the domestic supply of cattle faces a 70 year low. This is”.

The following day, August 26, Smith released a statement regarding U.S. arms sales policy toward Israel: “My statement calling on the U.S. to leverage certain arms sales to Israel. https://t.co/T2UUk8tg2F”.

Later that same day, he criticized former President Donald Trump’s reported actions concerning Federal Reserve governance: “President Trump continues to try to unilaterally expand his own power, further leading us towards an authoritarian takeover of our representative democracy. Attempting to remove Lisa Cook, a Biden-appointed Federal Reserve governor, could have detrimental effects on our economy”.

Smith has been active in public service since the early 1990s when he served in the Washington State Senate before joining Congress in 1997. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently resides in Bellevue. Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
