Rep. Adam Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, posted on social media about his recent interviews regarding the September 2 boat strikes and highlighted concerns over rising utility costs for Americans.
On December 10, 2025, Smith shared that he had spoken with CNN about the incident: “I spoke with @CNN about the video of the September 2 boat strikes.” Later that day, he reiterated his involvement in public discussions by stating, “I joined @MSNOWNews to discuss the boat strike videos.”
In another post from December 10, Smith addressed economic challenges faced by families in his district amid winter conditions: “Americans are struggling to pay their utility bills this winter, as the average cost of energy reaches about $976 per month. Families in my district can’t afford these electricity payments but also cannot risk power shutoffs in freezing temperatures. We need cleaner, cheaper”
Smith has served in Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds a BA from Fordham University and a JD from the University of Washington.
