Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media account to address recent legislative efforts and concerns related to AmeriCorps funding, housing market practices, and access to workforce training.

On August 2, 2025, Smith posted about challenges facing AmeriCorps under the Trump administration: “AmeriCorps has been decimated by the Trump administration, despite their great work supporting service and volunteering to help those in need. I held a roundtable with folks from local AmeriCorps chapters to hear what we can do to support their work in the midst of their funding”.

Later that same day, he addressed issues surrounding housing affordability and institutional investment: “Private entities have hijacked the housing market for far too long, taking properties away from working-class Americans. I’ve introduced legislation to ban hedge funds form owning single-family homes and to kick institutional investors and private equity companies out of the”.

On August 3, 2025, Smith highlighted barriers for individuals seeking job training: “There are many financial barriers for those looking to access training for high-quality jobs. I introduced the Empowering Individuals to Succeed Through Education and Workforce Training Act to give wrap-around services like housing and childcare for those juggling multiple”.

Smith has served as a member of Congress since 1997 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 1991 through 1997. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently resides in Bellevue. Smith holds a BA from Fordham University (1987) and a JD from the University of Washington (1990).
