Puget Sound Fire Halloween safety tips will help families trick o’ treat

Halloween is just around the corner and with it, Puget Sound Fire has shared some safety tips.

Trick or Treating:

    Have a pre-determined route
    Never trick or treat alone
    Trick or treat with parents or friends
    Only go to houses with porch lights on
    Never enter anyone’s house or car

Costumes:

    Wear light colored costumes, if possible
    Put reflective tape on costumes and bags
    Carry glow sticks
    Carry flashlights

Crossing Streets:

    Cross at intersections or crosswalks
    Look both ways
    Try to make eye contact with the drivers before crossing the street

Walking along streets:

    Stay on the sidewalks, when possible
    Walk against traffic so you can see cars coming

Parents & Drivers:

    Put electronic devises away when taking your children trick or treating
    Pay attention to traffic
    Pay attention to children, they will be excited and may dart out into traffic
    Inspect all candy before your children eats it
    Do not allow your children to eat homemade treats, unless they are given by a close, trusted friend
    Keep your children in sight at all time.
