Smith, who has been serving in Congress since 1997 after replacing Randy Tate, maintains an active presence on social media, reaching out to his constituents on issues both personal and communal.
On April 20, 2025, Smith extended warm wishes for the Easter holiday to his constituents with a brief message, “Happy Easter to all those celebrating in WA-09!”
Later that day, Smith expressed his condolences over the passing of State Senator Bill Ramos. In his message, he mentioned, “My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of State Senator Bill Ramos, who passed away yesterday. Especially his wife King County Councilwoman Sarah Perry. Bill was a dedicated public servant who did so much to make our community a better place to live for all of us. He was” Known for being a committed public servant, Ramos’ death is a significant loss to the community.
The following day, on April 21, 2025, Smith used the opportunity to highlight the beginning of National Volunteer Week. He shared his personal motivation to serve the King County community, stating, “The thing that keeps me going is my want to help King County become a better place to live, and there’s a lot of ways we can work together to make that happen. Today starts National Volunteer Week, where you can take some time and help those around you.” Smith’s call to action encourages communal effort to improve local living conditions.
Smith, 57, originally from Washington, D.C., now resides in Bellevue and carries an educational background with a BA from Fordham University and a JD from the University of Washington. His continued dedication to the 9th district is rooted in years of public service, including his tenure in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997.
