Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently took to social media to address several issues affecting his constituents and the broader community.

On May 14, 2025, Smith expressed concerns over a proposed budget by House Republicans. He stated that “as we speak, my colleagues are debating the House Republican budget that would leave 216,000 people in Washington without health coverage if passed.” He criticized GOP lawmakers for proposing tax cuts for wealthy individuals at the expense of Medicaid cuts.

Later that day, Smith reminded his followers about an upcoming event. He invited them to join him on May 21 at Foster High School’s Performing Arts Center for Military Academy Night. The event aims to provide information on the nomination process and application procedures for service academies. In his tweet, he said: “REMINDER: Join us next Wednesday…for our Military Academy Night.”

In another post on May 14, Smith highlighted the rising housing costs in King County. He noted that “King County’s average single-family home price hit a new high last month at $1.03 million,” which he described as unattainable for many working-class families. To address this issue, he mentioned introducing legislation such as the PHAZE Act and HOPE for Homeownership Act.

Smith has served in various capacities throughout his political career, including a term in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997 before joining Congress. Born in Washington D.C., Smith currently resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
