Rep. Adam Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, recently expressed concerns over the impact of budget cuts by former President Donald Trump and Robert Kennedy Jr. on public health services. Elected in 1997, Smith has a long-standing history in political service, initially serving in the Washington State Senate before his congressional tenure. Through a series of tweets, Smith highlighted issues related to healthcare funding and also shared enthusiasm for the Seattle Mariners’ prospects.
On March 28, 2025, Rep. Smith criticized former President Trump for budgetary decisions affecting Washington state. “Donald Trump’s reckless cuts are hitting our state hard, including slashing over $160 million in funds dedicated to public health, mental health, and substance use services. The President is prioritizing tax cuts for billionaires over health care for Washingtonians.”
In another post on the same day, he expressed his optimism for the Seattle Mariners, a professional baseball team based in Seattle, Washington. “One step closer to a World Series. On pace for 162-0. Let’s go Mariners.”
Rep. Smith also discussed a significant budget cut announced by Robert Kennedy Jr., drawing attention to its potential statewide ramifications. “I signed onto a letter with my Democratic colleagues about @RobertKennedyJr’s $11.4 billion cut to public health services and cancellation of $1 billion towards mental health care. Eliminating these funds makes all Washingtonians less safe.”
