City Council approved additional funding for the African Community Housing & Development organization Tuesday night.

The $150,000 in additional funding came from the City’s General Fund and is expected to be divvied out by the group for rental assistance to members

of the community. Of that amount, $127,500 will provide direct rental assistance to approximately 41 eligible households and $22,500 will cover

administrative costs.

ACHD has 74 people on a waiting list seeking rental assistance. The group’s focus is serving families and the elderly who have fallen behind in payment

due to the pandemic. ACHD will work primarily with residents who reside in the Pine Ridge, Hunt Club and Shannon apartments.

The City allocates 1.5 percent of the General Fund budget for human services. There is currently $260,313 of unallocated funds available in the human

services 2021-2022 Biennial Budget. The City used some unallocated funds earlier this year for human service agencies, too.
