Rep. Adam Smith, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, has recently shared his views on various pressing issues via social media. Smith, who was born in Washington, D.C., and currently resides in Bellevue, graduated from Fordham University and earned a JD from the University of Washington.

On May 22, 2025, Rep. Smith expressed his opposition to a Republican budget bill through a tweet. He stated, “I strongly oppose the Republican budget bill. This bill would balloon the national debt, slash critical services, and deliver nearly $4.6 trillion in tax breaks that overwhelmingly benefit the wealthiest Americans.” He highlighted concerns about families struggling with rising costs.

Later that day, at 15:58 UTC, Smith addressed an incident involving violence against Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington D.C., condemning it as a reprehensible act. In his tweet, he said: “Last night, two Israeli Embassy staffers, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, were brutally shot and killed as they were exiting an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. I strongly condemn this reprehensible act of violence.”

In another post made at 19:05 UTC on the same day, Smith turned his attention to local issues affecting Seattle. He emphasized the city’s homelessness crisis by stating that more affordable housing is needed to address this challenge effectively. His tweet read: “Seattle faces one of the worst homelessness crises in the nation. We need more affordable housing to get these folks off the streets, and services to support them in the process.”
