Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform this week to highlight upcoming events and issues related to affordable housing and mental health.
On September 9, Smith posted a reminder about an event hosted by his office: “REMINDER: Tomorrow, September 10 my office will host Census Data Tools for Grant Writing and Fundraising Webinar at 12 p.m. We’ll hear from representatives from @uscensusbureau to learn how to best use their resources. To RSVP, visit https://t.co/agIttNxCge”. The webinar is aimed at helping attendees utilize census data tools for grant writing and fundraising purposes.
The following day, on September 10, Smith addressed the issue of affordable housing in Seattle and King County. He wrote: “Affordable housing units are empty because the cost of rent can surpass the current market rate. Seattle and King County continue to be among the most expensive places to live in the country, making these affordable housing apartments essential for those who want to live and work”.
Later that same day, Smith acknowledged National Recovery Month by highlighting support services available for individuals dealing with mental health or addiction recovery: “Over 50 million American adults are navigating mental health and addiction recovery. As we recognize National Recovery Month this September, I want to remind everyone that support services are available. If you or someone you know is seeking help, visit https://t.co/jmcqr3EJj2.”
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate in Congress. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 until his election to federal office. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds a BA from Fordham University (1987) and a JD from the University of Washington (1990).
