Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, shared updates on public safety initiatives, healthcare access for children, and concerns over rising school supply costs in a series of recent posts.

On August 9, Smith posted about his engagement with local emergency response leaders: “I held a Public Safety Answer Point Roundtable in Kent to speak with local 911 leaders to discuss public safety challenges and opportunities. I support many pieces of legislation, including the 911 SAVES Act[VC1] [2] , to support these dispatchers and emergency responders to best”.

The following day, he highlighted his participation in a community health event: “I had the privilege to speak at the grand opening of the Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic today. Their new center will provide physical and behavioral health services for kids in the Central District, and I look forward to seeing all the great work they do here.” (August 10).

Later that same day, Smith addressed economic pressures facing families as students return to school: “As students prepare to go back to school, families are getting hit hard with rising prices on essential school supplies due to Trump’s careless tariffs. While Republicans continue to give tax breaks to billionaires, the working families of this country suffer and bear a huge” (August 10).

Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since replacing Randy Tate in Congress in 1997. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 through 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
