U.S. Representative Adam Smith, who has represented Washington’s 9th district in Congress since 1997, recently shared a series of posts on his official social media account addressing local homelessness efforts, legislative concerns, and international affairs.

On July 30, 2025, Smith highlighted his engagement with a local nonprofit: “The Salvation Army Street Level program connects people experiencing homelessness in King County to permanent housing. Affordable housing and homelessness are among my top priorities, so it was great to sit down with them today to discuss their work and how to improve homeless https://t.co/O1pKg54DLR”.

Later that evening, on July 31, Smith criticized pending legislation in Congress by stating: “The Big Ugly Bill hurts American families. https://t.co/PfVxa8CaDi”.

In a post the following morning on July 31, Smith commented on an opinion piece concerning the ongoing conflict involving Hamas: “William Galston’s op-ed in the Wall Street Journal acknowledges a hard truth: Hamas will never surrender. That truth underscores the urgent need for a fundamental shift in strategy. After nearly two years of war, it’s clear that the complete destruction of Hamas is not a feasible https://t.co/z8FHPDnSjP”.

Smith’s comments come as he continues his long tenure representing Washington’s 9th District in Congress—a position he has held since succeeding Randy Tate in 1997. Prior to serving in Congress, Smith was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
