U.S. Congressman Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district, has recently highlighted local initiatives and federal policy impacts in a series of posts on social media.

On August 12, Smith posted about hosting a roundtable in Auburn focused on community health centers. He wrote, “Today in Auburn, I held a Community Health Centers Roundtable to discuss how the Big Ugly Bill’s Medicaid and SNAP cuts will impact those attending these centers. We need affordable healthcare to keep our neighbors healthy, so I thank you for taking the time to share your” (August 12, 2025).

The following day, Smith visited an ecological restoration site at Lake Sammamish State Park. He stated, “This morning, I toured the Issaquah Creek Ecological Restoration Project at Lake Sammamish State Park. Earlier this year the Trump administration and the EPA had frozen federal funding for this project. I am glad to see this funding unfrozen since this work will preserve our” (August 13, 2025).

On August 14, Smith thanked Bellevue LifeSpring after visiting one of their Family Hubs within the Bellevue School District. He wrote, “Thank you to Bellevue LifeSpring for welcoming me to their Family Hub. These hubs are spread across schools in the Bellevue School District to provide families with basic needs, housing, health care referrals, and more. These services have been a great help to those in the” (August 14, 2025).

Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since replacing Randy Tate in Congress in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C., he currently resides in Bellevue and is an alumnus of Fordham University and the University of Washington.
