Rep. Adam Smith, who has represented Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, addressed health care policy and the role of former President Donald Trump in a series of posts on his social media account.
On October 8, 2025, Smith criticized Republican policy positions, stating: “Republicans cut Medicaid, targeted Medicare, defunded Planned Parenthood, and gutted cancer research – leaving millions of Americans without the care they need. I’m fighting to stop the Republican war on health care.”
The following day, on October 9, 2025, Smith commented on presidential authority: “We have to rein in Trump’s power to protect our constitutional republic.”
Later that day, he addressed misinformation about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and undocumented immigrants: “The ACA says: undocumented immigrants do not qualify for benefits. Republicans are scared to talk about health care because they know their policy is terrible.”
Smith has served in Congress for over two decades after succeeding Randy Tate in 1997. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1965, Smith resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
