Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, used his Twitter account on July 17, 2025, to call for an investigation into a recent killing and to criticize the Republican caucus.

In a post at 18:45 UTC, Smith wrote, “There must be an investigation into the killing of Sayfollah Musallet. I introduced the West Bank Violence Prevention Act with @RepJerryNadler and @jahimes to deter acts of violence and ensure perpetrators are held accountable. The rise in violence in the West Bank is https://t.co/eg75Do7dP6”.

Later that evening at 21:19 UTC, he posted another message: “Make it make sense. https://t.co/aKVWg4ttFz”.

At 22:05 UTC on the same day, Smith further commented on political matters by stating, “The American people are paying the price for the complete lack of principle of the Republican caucus. https://t.co/XM0kT48ZWj”.

Adam Smith has served as a member of Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds a BA from Fordham University (1987) and a JD from the University of Washington (1990).
