Rep. Adam Smith, who has represented Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, recently addressed a range of domestic policy issues on his official social media account.

On July 26, Smith posted about the importance of workforce quality and inclusivity: “Our country has the most talented and best educated workforce in the world, and we must consistently promote policies that provide all Americans with quality jobs and strong benefits. On July 28, Smith reported meeting with educators to discuss federal funding: “I sat down with members of the Washington Education Association to discuss federal funding for Washington state and to hear updates from them.”

Smith’s comments come as he continues his long tenure representing Washington’s 9th District in Congress—a role he has held since succeeding Randy Tate in 1997. Before his congressional service, Smith was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and now residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
