Rep. Adam Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, addressed several issues in a series of posts on July 29, 2025, ranging from national politics to local economic development and international human rights concerns.

In his first post of the day, Smith criticized former President Donald Trump’s handling of information related to the Epstein files. On July 29, he wrote: “Lies are the cornerstone of how President Trump governs, and he continues to lie about the Epstein files to the American people.”

Later that afternoon, Smith highlighted efforts within his district to bolster local economies. At 19:19 UTC, he posted: “I sat down with folks today to talk about growing economic development departments in their cities. Washington and the Ninth District are leading many initiatives to grow our local economies, so I appreciate those coming from Kent, Auburn, Seattle, Federal Way, Bellevue, Renton,”

Addressing foreign policy and human rights later that evening, Smith expressed concern over violence against Palestinians. At 19:59 UTC on July 29, he stated: “I am horrified by the killing of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen. The settler who shot Awdah had previously been sanctioned by the Biden administration, but those sanctions were promptly removed when President Trump took office.

The rise is settler violence is unacceptable”

Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since succeeding Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
