Rep. Adam Smith, who has represented Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, posted a series of statements on November 6, 2025, addressing issues ranging from federal benefits to immigration policy and leadership in Congress.

In a post at 16:17 UTC, Smith stated: “SNAP benefits have been reduced, federal workers are going without pay, and health care premiums are skyrocketing for millions of Americans.

The Republicans and Donald Trump have refused to meet with Democrats to remedy these problems. It’s long past time that they come to the https://t.co/FA5Bq16j8H“.

Later the same day at 17:51 UTC, Smith highlighted his support for refugee admissions by writing: “In a time when the President and his administration are targeting immigrants and those seeking a better future, I am proud to be an original cosponsor of the Lady Liberty Act. This legislation would require the President to set a goal of admitting no less than 125,000 refugees”.

At 19:49 UTC, Smith reflected on House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s career: “For almost four decades, Nancy Pelosi has loyally served her constituents in California, as well as her fellow Americans across the country.

I’m grateful to have worked with her throughout the years, witnessed her making history, and setting an example of leadership for https://t.co/BO9FH8Nvbi”.

Smith is currently serving his twelfth term in Congress after first being elected in 1997; prior to this role he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 until his move to Capitol Hill.
