Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, has addressed several pressing issues in recent social media posts, including gun violence, housing affordability, and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

On August 27, 2025, Smith responded to a tragic event in Minnesota: “I am deeply saddened to hear the news about the horrific shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis this morning. As we in Washington prepare to head back to school, no child, teacher, or their families should worry about walking through the classroom doors. I’m”.

Later that day, Smith turned his attention to local economic challenges faced by renters: “Renters in King County need to make almost $92,000 a year to afford just a one-bedroom apartment. This is pushing homeownership further out of reach and making our city less accessible to live and work in. We need to build more affordable housing to create attainable alternatives” (August 27, 2025).

On August 28, 2025, Smith discussed international humanitarian concerns: “I signed onto two letters urging the Trump Administration to surge infant formula into Gaza and reverse the cruel pause on temporary medical-humanitarian visas for children from Gaza. We must take action to stop the humanitarian crisis.”

Smith’s career includes nearly three decades of service in Congress after replacing Randy Tate as representative for Washington’s 9th district. He previously served six years in the Washington State Senate before entering Congress. Born in Washington D.C., Smith currently resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
