Rep. Adam Smith, who has represented Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, posted a series of statements on his official X account on October 9, 2025, addressing topics ranging from party politics to international conflict resolution.
In a post at 19:19 UTC, Smith questioned Republican lawmakers, writing, “Will House and Senate Republicans ever stand up to Donald Trump?”.
Later that evening, at 21:16 UTC, Smith commented on developments in the Middle East, stating, “The first phase of the ceasefire agreement is an important and long-overdue step toward ending a war that has caused immense human suffering and instability across the region. The agreement calls for the return of the remaining Israeli hostages and will surge urgently needed”.
At 21:44 UTC, Smith expressed support for fellow Democrat Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, writing, “I applaud @RepJeffries for standing up to fight for health care and it’s embarrassing how the other side of the aisle behaves sometimes.”
Smith, who succeeded Randy Tate in Congress, has served in the House since 1997 after previously holding office in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965, Smith currently resides in Bellevue and holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
