Rep. Adam Smith, U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, posted a series of messages on his social media account on July 17, 2025, addressing topics ranging from mental health awareness to workforce development and political commentary.

In recognition of National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Smith wrote, “July marks National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. There are resources and people here to lend a hand, so remember to take care of yourself this month.” (posted July 17, 2025).

Later the same day, Smith discussed the need for more blue-collar workers in the United States and advocated for expanded job training programs. He stated, “We need hundreds of thousands of more blue-collar workers in this country. Everyone should have access to a good-paying job, regardless of whether they have a college degree. Now is the time to expand access to high-quality job training programs like pre-apprenticeships that https://t.co/N3O6y2SktO” (posted July 17, 2025).

In another post that day, Smith commented on former President Donald Trump’s hiring practices with a brief remark: “Trump’s hiring process: https://t.co/CysQmInIrl” (posted July 17, 2025).

Smith has been serving in Congress since he succeeded Randy Tate in Washington’s 9th district in 1997. Prior to his tenure in the House of Representatives, he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
