Representative Adam Smith, who serves Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed recent policy changes and upcoming events through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on August 11, 2025.

In one post dated August 11, Smith criticized the Trump administration’s Medicaid policies, stating: “Under President Trump’s new Medicaid rules, those who need mental health resources most will have the most difficulty accessing them. Bureaucratic red tape isn’t reform — it’s a barrier to access.”

Later that day, Smith invited constituents to participate in an online event: “Join me for a Virtual Town Hall on Thursday, August 14 at 6 p.m. Tune in via livestream on Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube, or by visiting https://t.co/76FKbh1ph2. Hearing your thoughts and questions is a top priority for me as your representative, so I hope you will participate”.

In another post from August 11, Smith commented on recent economic measures enacted by former President Donald Trump: “On Thursday, President Trump’s tariffs hit our economy, adding more taxes on imports. This is jacking up prices the consumers will pay, making your grocery bill and everyday costs even higher. Tariffs are as high as 50% on goods coming from certain countries. Trump is doing”.

Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since 1997 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. He was born in Washington D.C., holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington School of Law, and currently resides in Bellevue.
