Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media addressing both community celebrations and recent tragic events.
On December 14, 2025, Smith extended holiday greetings to his constituents: “Happy Hannukah to all those celebrating in the Ninth District. Enjoy this year’s festival of lights. Chag sameach!”
The following day, he commented on mental health services in King County: “There are still too many obstacles to accessing mental health services, including long wait times. The good news is that in King County, individuals can now receive care more quickly. While there is more work to do, I remain committed to ensuring my constituents have the” (posted December 15, 2025).
Later that day, Smith addressed violence targeting Jewish communities: “Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the communities affected by the tragic deadly shootings over the weekend. The antisemitic attack at a Hanukkah celebration near Bondi Beach was a deliberate act of hatred against Jewish families celebrating their faith, and it” (posted December 15, 2025).
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th district since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
