Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address several issues including gender equality, higher education funding, and affordable housing.
On August 18, 2025, Smith marked the anniversary of women’s suffrage by stating: “105 years ago, women were given to right to vote. Since then, we’ve seen some very strong women emerge as leaders in our country, yet women are still not given the same benefits as men. Later that day, Smith highlighted his participation in an educational roundtable at Highline College in Des Moines. Smith has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 9th District since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate. Prior to his congressional tenure, he was a member of the Washington State Senate from 1991 until 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
