Rep. Adam Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently addressed economic and educational concerns on his social media account.

On March 13, 2026, Smith posted about the impact of ongoing conflict on American consumers: “Gas prices could rise as high as 50%, jacking up the costs of other products. We should stop this war as soon as possible to bring economic relief to American families.”

Later that day, he thanked participants in an educational event: “Thanks to those from College Possible who joined me for a Student Roundtable in Federal Way. The price of tuition is far too high today, and I continue to work towards breaking down barriers to higher education access.”

In another post on March 13, Smith criticized past foreign policy decisions: “The Trump Administration dove into the war with Iran without a clear idea of where it was going.”

Smith has served in Congress since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965, Smith currently resides in Bellevue. He holds a BA from Fordham University and a JD from the University of Washington.
