Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a series of pressing issues on his social media account, including disaster relief efforts for Western Washington, the release of video evidence in a high-profile incident, and concerns about federal policy affecting Somali immigrants.

On December 15, 2025, Smith posted about the recent impact of severe weather events in his district: “Atmospheric river floods have been devastating to Western Washington. I spoke with @KING5Seattle about the importance of obtaining emergency relief funds from FEMA.”

Later that day, Smith highlighted transparency regarding an ongoing investigation: “I spoke with @CNN about why the video of the September 2nd boat strike should be released.”

In another statement posted on December 15, he expressed concern over comments made by former President Donald Trump targeting Somalis with Temporary Protected Status (TPS): “I joined several of my colleagues in expressing deep concern over President Trump’s comments targeting Somalis with Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Many Somali TPS holders, including those in Washington’s Ninth District, have become pillars in our community, started businesses,”

Smith has served as a member of Congress since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently resides in Bellevue. His academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington.
