Rep. Adam Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account between August 28 and August 29, 2025. The tweets covered topics ranging from local law enforcement incidents to educational visits and international policy.

On August 28, Smith drew attention to an incident involving federal authorities and emergency personnel. He wrote, “Two members of a firefighting crew were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol while actively working to contain a dangerous wildfire in the Olympic Peninsula. Federal officers demanded identification and instructed other crew members not to report the incident. These firefighters have” (posted August 28, 2025).

Later that day, Smith highlighted his visit to the University of Washington. In his tweet, he stated, “Today, I visited @UW to see the great work their students and faculty are doing. We started at their Advanced Composites Center where they are pioneering cost-effective, environmentally-friendly composite manufacturing methods. On August 29, Smith addressed U.S. foreign policy regarding Israel and Gaza in another post: “The U.S. must leverage arms sales to push Israel to reach a Gaza ceasefire, surge humanitarian aid and stop settlement expansion in the West Bank. Thankful for the opportunity to be on Pod Save America to discuss.” (posted August 29, 2025).

Smith has served as a congressional representative for Washington’s 9th District since replacing Randy Tate in 1997 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
