Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on September 5, 2025, addressing issues ranging from energy prices under President Trump to political discourse and income inequality.
In a tweet posted at 14:59 UTC, Smith criticized the Trump administration’s handling of energy costs, stating: “President Trump talked a big game about cutting energy costs. Over 8 months in to his dumpster fire of an administration, electricity prices have risen. American families are bearing the burden of Trump’s weakness.”
Later that day at 16:33 UTC, Smith responded to commentary by NEWSMAX regarding political dialogue in the United States. He wrote: “.@NEWSMAX tried to blame Democrats for single-handedly ruining the tone of political dialogue in this country. I set the record straight.”
At 19:01 UTC on the same day, Smith shared details about his recent engagement with constituents through a virtual event. He stated: “This weekend, I held a Virtual Town Hall with over 14,000 participants. We talked about many concerns in our country, but I believe income inequality is the single biggest issue we face.”
Adam Smith has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 9th district since 1997 after succeeding Randy Tate and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue at age 57, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University (BA) and the University of Washington (JD).
