Rep. Adam Smith, who represents Washington’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed a range of local and national issues in a series of posts on July 18, 2025.

In his first post at 14:15 UTC, Smith highlighted the recent deportation of a local family: “Washington’s own Nicolle Forero arrived to court for what was supposed to be a routine check-in on June 18. Now, she and her family have been deported this week back to Colombia. The family sought asylum in the United States and were active members of our local community, with” (July 18, 2025).

Later that day at 15:40 UTC, Smith commented on housing affordability initiatives: “From reforming the permitting process to eliminating hedge funds in the single-family housing market, I am working to make buying a home more affordable and accessible for all Washingtonians.” (July 18, 2025).

Smith has represented Washington’s 9th District since replacing Randy Tate in Congress in 1997. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C. in 1965 and currently residing in Bellevue, Smith holds degrees from Fordham University and the University of Washington.
