Rep. Adam Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Washington’s 9th district since 1997, recently posted several updates on his official X account addressing national security and social policy initiatives.
On August 8, 2025, Smith commented on former President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the use of the Department of Defense to combat drug cartels. He wrote: “On Trump’s announcement about using DoD to fight drug cartels.”
The following day, August 9, Smith discussed a meeting with members and leaders of SEIU 775, a union representing long-term care providers in Washington state. In his post he stated: “I sat down with members and leaders of @SEIU775 yesterday to discuss how to better support long-term care providers. These are some of the most selfless, hardworking people, and I want to ensure that the more than 55,000 SEIU 775 union members have the best benefits possible for”.
Later on August 9, Smith referenced his legislative work with other congressional representatives. He posted: “Two years ago, I joined @RepBeatty and @RepBonamici in introducing the Expanding Service Coordinators Act, which would increase funding for programs that help connect individuals and families living in federally assisted houses with social services like health care, meals, job”.
Smith has represented Washington’s 9th District since replacing Randy Tate in Congress in 1997 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997. Born in Washington D.C., Smith currently resides in Bellevue at age 57. He is an alumnus of Fordham University (BA) and holds a JD from the University of Washington.
