Rep. Adam Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 9th district, shared several updates on social media regarding recent events and political stances. Smith has been a congressional representative since 1997, succeeding Randy Tate, and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997.

On May 7, 2025, Rep. Adam Smith expressed gratitude towards attendees of the Congressional Art Competition Reception held in Renton over the weekend. He acknowledged the talents of students within his district by stating, “I appreciate everyone who came out in Renton this weekend for our Congressional Art Competition Reception. We have lots of talented students in our district, and I was proud see the work of those who contributed this year.”

In another post on May 7, Smith criticized a proposed Republican budget plan that he claims would negatively impact Medicaid beneficiaries. He stated that “The Republican budget would slash Medicaid and results in millions losing their health insurance. House Democrats stand united against this poorly planned budget.”

Additionally, Rep. Smith reminded constituents about an upcoming Virtual Town Hall scheduled for that evening at 6:00 p.m., inviting them to join via various online platforms including Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, YouTube or through a provided link: “REMINDER: Please join us for a Virtual Town Hall tonight at 6:00 p.m. Tune in on Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube, or by visiting https://t.co/76FKbh0Rru.”

Born in Washington D.C., Adam Smith now resides in Bellevue at age 57. He holds a BA from Fordham University and a JD from the University of Washington.
